FIRST HOME OWNERS GRANT
EXTENSIONS OF THE $20,000 GRANT FOR ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS WHO BUY OR BUILD A NEW HOME
WHAT IS THE EXTENSION?
The Tasmanian Government has extended the 20,000 First Home Owners Grant to eligible first home owners for the purchase or building of a new home.
The extension of the scheme means that the $20,000 payment will be available for eligible transactions entered into up to and including 30 June 2022.
Important: Applicants for the First home Owners Grant are not eligible for the Duty Concession for established homes.
The existing eligibility requirements for receiving the First Home Owner Grant will apply to applicants for the extended grant.
Eligible transactions are as follows:
A comprehensive home building contract for a new home;
The building of a new home by an owner builder (which includes the relocation of a new movable building); or
A contract for the purchase of a new home (for example, a spec. home or an off-the plan purchase of a new home).
If the eligible transaction is for the construction of a new home, the home must be built in 24 months of entering into the eligible transaction. The period of 24 months applies to as follows...
For a contract to build: This means withing 24 months of entering into the contract
For an owner builder: This means within 24 months of commencing the laying of the homes foundation.

Lodge your application through your financial institution when applying for finance, or at Service Tasmania if you are not applying for finance.
The funds will be allocated in line with the agreements made with your financial institution or as directed by you if you are not obtaining finance.
